Rancho Palos Verdes, CA

On Friday, at 7:00 p.m., Strimple conducted the Los Angeles Zimriyah Chorale and Cantor Sam Radwine in a Friday evening service at Congregation Ner Tamid. The program to commemorate Yom HaShoah featured classic repertoire for chorale and cantor.

Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church - Beverly Hills, CA

In an eclectic afternoon celebrating Cinco de Mayo, the Choral Society of Southern California (CSSC) performed music from the Mexican Baroque period and Duke Ellington’s Sacred Concert. Joining the CSSC was the Jack Lantz Big Band, mezzo soprano Catherine Cooper, members of the USC Early Music Ensemble and the Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir. Strimple conducted.

Once again, Strimple served as the Music Director for this popular non-denominational annual Easter event at the Hollywood Bowl.

 

09 March 2008   ||   5th Annual Los Angeles Interfaith Symposium and Concert

Beverly Hills, CA

Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church

For this city-wide Interfaith event, Nick Strimple prepared an evening concert exploring the theme of 'Angels' in Protestant, Jewish and Catholic music. Under his baton,
the combined members of the Choral Society of Southern California, the Los Angeles Zimriyah Chorale, “La Vie,”
and the Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir performed works by Tchaikovsky, Handel, Hassler, Mendelssohn, and modern composers Gabriel Fauré, William Sharlin, Moshe Rothblum, David McKinley Williams, and Nick Strimple. Vocal soloists included Catherine Cooper, Tara Smith, Cantor Judy Dubin Aranoff, Cale Olson and Cantor Ira Bigeleisen. During the same program, Michael Isaacson premiered his new work, Five Angels, a harp duet with reader.

Alfred Newman Recital Hall, USC

Renowned American choral conductor Paul Salamunovich conducted the USC Thornton Chamber Choir in a concert surveying Ave Maria and Ubi Caritas settings. Strimple's own Ubi Caritas, published by Oxford University Press, was part of the retrospective.

08 Dec 2007   ||   A Christmas Celebration

Beverly Hills, CA

Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church

The 30th Annual Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church Christmas Concert featured Cindy Crawford reading the Christmas Story and Strimple conducting Handel's Messiah. To help re-build the Malibu Presbyterian Church, which was destroyed in the October 2007 fire, the Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church donated proceeds from this concert to the Malibu church's rebuilding campaign.

 

10 Nov 2007   ||   One Shabbat Morning

In commemoration of Kristallnacht, The Los Angeles Zimriyah Chorale, with Strimple conducting, appeared with Craig Taubman in a special service at Adat Ari El Synagogue.

Under Strimple's baton, the Choral Society of Southern California and the Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir performed Strimple's cantata Pentecost and other works related to Pentecost.

 

08 May 2007   ||   Music and the Holocaust: Survival, Resistance and Response

Los Angeles, CA

Strimple was invited to give a lecture/concert for the 60th Annual International Cantor's Assembly. Assisted by the USC Thornton School of Music Chamber Choir (directed by Dr. Magen Solomon) and student soloists, Strimple presented a program of rarely heard music composed in hiding, before deportation, and in Nazi concentration camps and ghettos. Highlights included authentic recordings made in the camps and Cantor David Kane performing songs he was forced to sing in Auschwitz.

Presented by the Jewish Music Commission of Los Angeles, the Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church and the Los Angeles Catholic Archdiocese, the 3:00 p.m. symposium offered discussion and debate with leading Los Angeles clergy and scholars.  The 7:00 p.m. concert featured the Choral Society of Southern California, the Los Angeles Zimriyah Chorale and the Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir. Strimple conducted the WORLD PREMIERE of his Harpsichord Concerto with David Lowe, harpsichordist and members of the Amarillo Symphony Orchestra. Beginning at 6:30 pm, the concert also featured sacred works by Strimple, including Five Easy Hymn-Anthems on Original Texts and Tunes, Valley of Bones, and his setting of Weeping Mary.

Following a speech by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, the Los Angeles Zimriyah Chorale, under the direction of Strimple, performed a variety of Israeli songs to close the convention.
